idealis Partners with Mubadala Capital to Define and Launch a Firmwide Values Framework

A Culture Defined by Its People: Codifying the Firmwide Values Guiding Mubadala Capital

At idealis., we believe that clarity of culture is a strategic asset, one that enables leaders to unlock performance, build trust, and scale with intention. Over the past eighteen months, we have had the privilege of partnering with Mubadala Capital to articulate and codify the values that have long guided the firm’s success and will continue to anchor its growth.

Formed in 2011 as a subsidiary of Mubadala Investment Company, Mubadala Capital has grown into a global investment firm with over $20 billion in assets under management. As the business expanded across geographies, investment platforms, and people, its leadership recognized the importance of bringing greater clarity and alignment to the cultural foundation that has shaped the firm since its earliest days.

We were engaged to help the organization build this clarity. Together with Mubadala Capital’s Global Head of Human Capital, Head of Communications, and senior leadership team, we led a comprehensive cultural assessment across the firm’s five global offices, analyzing more than 15,000 data points, conducting over 80 hours of interviews, and facilitating focus groups and surveys around the world.

As one senior leader shared with us early in the process, “We are a powerful mosaic that has not yet been shaped into the most beautiful picture it can be.” That sentiment guided our work: to help the organization bring shape, alignment, and shared meaning to what was already strong within the culture.

What we found was a powerful and unified cultural identity. While day-to-day expressions varied across offices and teams, the underlying principles were remarkably consistent. This insight enabled us to work with the leadership team to synthesize four core values - Ambitious, Resilient, Responsible, and Respectful - that reflect both who Mubadala Capital is today and who the firm aspires to be as it continues to scale.

Throughout the engagement, we partnered closely with senior leaders to embed these values into the firm’s narrative, leadership expectations, and human capital strategy. We supported leadership in shaping key stakeholder moments and developing a plan to integrate the values across the broader talent lifecycle and core people systems.

We don’t believe in delivering a framework and walking away. Our role was to ensure that Mubadala Capital’s leaders had the insight, ownership, and alignment required to ensure the values took hold at every level of the organization..
